Urban Animal Encounters: Skunks and Armadillos!

Meet the nine-banded armadillo and the striped skunk. Although their natural defense behaviors are beneficial to them in the wild, these same behaviors do not fare well with their urban cohabitants. Most people cannot help but turn up their noses when they think about these two animals, but after our class, we hope your feelings change. Join us as we clear up some common untruths and add clarity to their adaptations with the help of Mac and Segonku, our friendly guest stars!

The Sam Houston State University, Department of Agricultural and Industrial Science presents this two day professional development opportunity. This workshop is on June 11, 12, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The topics of the workshop will include each of the Units of Instruction from the Advanced Animal Science class. Presentations will focus upon instructional strategies, laboratories and assessment methods. All workshop participants are asked to bring lesson plan and laboratory and assessment methods. Our character education series Heart of a Hall of Famer continues with a video conference on Friday, May 18 at 10:00 AM and again at 11:30 AM ET. Join Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas as he talks about the traits that made him one of the game's greatest. Thomas, the NFL’s MVP in 1991, amassed nearly 17,000 all-purpose yards in his playing career. Thomas is currently the President of the Thurman Thomas Global Energy Group (TTGEG). TTGEG administers and markets demand response, energy procurement and energy efficiency services to industrial, commercial and retail customers on a global level.

Join Cleveland Browns defensive end Frostee Rucker as he talks about the character traits that helped him make it into the National Football League. Rucker begins his first season with the Browns this year. Previously, he spent the first five seasons of his career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Frostee is a very community-minded individual and his been involved with numerous organizations to give back including The Salvation Army and his foundation Frostee’s Challenge.
